Who are Scouts?
Scouts are boys & girls in the third section of the Scout Group (10½ – 14yrs) following on from Cubs. Each Scout Troop consists of smaller groups of six to eight Scouts called a Patrol, usually led by a Patrol Leader. Outdoor activities feature prominently in both weekly meetings and camps, with the highlight being a week long summer camp. 
Scouts aims to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs/attitudes, be creative and be part of positive change in their local and global communities. It offers them the independence to put these skills into practice at meetings, camps and even on international trips.

Badges and Awards:
Our Activity Badges allow Scouts to try new things, form new interests and master new and varied skills. Staged Activity Badges are available throughout all the sections and allow young people to take on increasing levels of difficulty and skill in each unique area. 
Challenge Awards focus on accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the Troop or local community, these revolve around the themes of; Outdoor & Adventure, World and Skills. The highest award in the Scout Section is the Chief Scout Gold! 

Badges are a way for Scouts to celebrate and proudly display their skills and achievements on their uniform, they are awarded to those who have done their best and completed the badge requirements. See where they go with this handy Diagram:

Moving Up:
Around age 14, Scouts will start linking with a district Explorer Unit in preparation to move up to the next stage of their Scouting journey.

Who are the Leaders?
All Scout Leaders in the world are unpaid volunteers, local heroes who generously give their time to provide young people with fantastic opportunities to have fun, make friends and learn new skills. Our team at 2nd Romford is a real mix, some have decades of Scouting experience, some are new to Scouting and others are Parent helpers.
